Over 70 guests joined us at AMVETS Post 464 in Huber Heights for the fifth year of our annual Cornhole Tournament.

This year we returned to AMVETS Post 464 for year five of our tournament, taking advantage of the beautiful space and friendly staff at the post. We saw more walk-in teams register the day of the event this year, using the event as practice for a regional tournament taking place in the same facility the following day.

There were a few changes this year that our guests were able to enjoy.

  • Players in enjoyed a minimum of four games, with two practice rounds taking place before double elimination play began

  • The team eliminated first with the lowest score got a special "award"

  • We held a 50/50, which paid out over $160 to a lucky winner

We kicked off practice play at noon with the first set of elimination games happening around 2 PM. As the first set of teams were eliminated we took a break to draw for this year's raffle items. We got a lot of positive feedback on this year's options, which included:

  • Cincinnati Reds Tickets

  • Cincinnati Zoo Tickets

  • Dayton Dragons Tickets

  • Carillon Park Tickets

  • Boonshoft Museum Tickets

  • Free Team Entry into the VMAS Golf Outing

  • and more.

After the raffle draw, teams that were eliminated were able to leave at their leisure while the tournament continued on. After about four hours of play we wrapped up the tournament and awarded the top three teams with prizes including VMAS memorabilia and gift cards. This year we saw new champions, with a Father and Son duo who traveled from Lima going undefeated all four games. Our champs from two years ago took second, and a new team to the tournament this year took third. First place is pictured on the left, second in the center, and third on the right.

Stats from this year's event include;

  • One less team registered compared to 2025

  • Spectator count grew 10%

  • Total event length reduced 20 minutes compared to 2025, with more total games played this year

Guests at this year's event were the formal launch of the Wright State VMAS Vanguard Fund. This endowment supports the Veteran and Military-Connected community at Wright State University through:

  • Scholarships for Veteran and Military-Connected Students and,

  • ID Tags for new Veteran and Military-Connected Graduates in the Captain Shawn L. English Champion Garden.

    • These students can choose to honor a parent, spouse, supporter, or use this opportunity to leave their own name on a local memorial dedicated to honoring Veterans, Service Members, and those who support - or Champion - their success.

Lastly, we want to show our gratitude to the AMVETS team, our sponsors, and the Ohio Cornhole League.

  • The AMVETS team cooked over 60 meals and poured more than 120 cold drinks for our guests.

  • Our sponsors covered entry for 4 teams and provided over $1,000 toward our endowment.

  • Terry and the Ohio Cornhole League team were instrumental in keeping the tournament running efficiently.

Check out picture from the event in our Events Photo Gallery. We look forward to seeing everyone again in April 2027 for the Sixth Annual Cornhole Tournament!!
