Veterans Day 2021 | The National Veterans Memorial & Museum

On November 10th VMAS and the Wright State Veteran & Military Center sponsored a trip to the National Veterans Memorial & Museum in Columbus, Ohio. The VMC provided transportation for alumni, students, and VMC staff who were able to tour the museum in observation of Veteran's Day. Our group contained Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan from the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps.

"There’s only one Museum in America that honors ALL Veterans – from all branches of service, and from all eras of our nation’s proud history of military service, both peacetime and wartime. The National Veterans Memorial and Museum is a powerful and personal experience designed to give a voice to every man and woman who answered the call for our country.

This is neither a war memorial nor a military museum. The National Veterans Memorial and Museum takes visitors on a narrative journey telling individual stories and shared experiences of Veterans throughout history."

The NVMM was created in 2018, earning it's national designation and making it the only Museum in America that honors all veterans from all branches of service and from all eras of our nation’s proud history of military service, both peacetime and wartime. Our group was able to take in the museum at our own pace, following along the natural flow of the museum which organizes exhibits in a timeline order. One side of the walkway tells the story of the individual service member, from enlistment, through time of service, and post-service. The other side of the walkway outlines the history of the armed forces and significant points in the nations history. While the museum is small in size, it does a great job integrating digital content with traditional museum presentation.

Our trip ended with lunch at Milestone 229 in courtesy of the VMC and VMAS. This was the first year the two organizations organized this Veterans Day trip and we look forward to hosting it again next year.
