Loghan Young | Member Highlight

Meet Loghan Young; Wright State Alumni, US Army Veteran, VMAS Finance and Fundraising Committee Chairperson, and a lot more. Loghan is a Dayton native and graduated from Fairborn High School in 2006. She enlisted in the US Army in 2009 at the age of 21 as an 88M Transportation Specialist, completing her initial training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After initial training, Loghan was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In 2010 she deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan as the lead convoy driver and a part of the Personnel Security Detail (PSD).

Life After the Military

After her enlistment, Loghan attended Sinclair Community College and Wright State University earning a total of three degrees, three certificates, and minoring in Veterans Services. That wasn't all, Loghan continued to serve the military community through roles with numerous Veterans Services Organizations and Veterans Voices. Being a work-study in the Wright State Veteran & Military Center set the foundation for her career path to continue working with and helping veteran/military personnel. In 2020, Loghan earned her final degree in a Masters of Public Administration/Nonprofit. Today Loghan works as a Program Manager for the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Civilian Institute at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and spends her free time with her three sons and helping her husband run his adult Flag Football League, SMYTD.

Member of VMAS

Loghan heard about VMAS while working at the Wright State VMC, particularly through Anthony Heiland. She now serves as the Chairperson of the Finance & Fundraising Committee. Her goal is to help find and write grants to fund VMAS initiatives. In addition, she participates in events and volunteers to serve the community.

“My interest in VMAS was to continue serving veterans/military personnel and give back to the community. I've used three different GI bills and can help others understand & navigate theirs. I want the Veteran community to know I am here to help veterans in any way I can!”

If you are interested in joining VMAS to volunteer with Loghan or want to find other opportunities within our organization, please email us at wrightstatevmas@gmail.com
