Third Annual VMAS Golf Outing
On Saturday, September 9th, VMAS held its third annual golf outing at Beavercreek Golf Club. This year’s outing saw significant growth, adding 35% more golfers over previous years and maxing out our registration goal with eighty-eight golfers.
This year we also had the support of fifteen sponsors from a mix of individuals and local corporations. Our biggest supporters continue to be the Miami Valley Veteran Service Commission and Wright State University Alumni Association. Without those two groups, this event would not be possible. This year's event raised almost $6,000, with the majority of that money going towards endowing an annual scholarship.
The weather could not have been better, and the course was in fantastic shape. There was a physical fitness twist thrown in during the round this year, if everyone in the group did ten push-ups, the next shot hit by our Vice President, Ken Folino, did not count towards the group's overall score (Ken made sure the shot was worth the effort). Every team had the option to participate, and no one was afraid to drop down and get a little dirty to cut a stroke from their score. Last year's champions were made up of Jon Adams, Nikki Adams, Terry Hurtig, and Joe Fernandez turned in the low score to repeat as champions.
After the round, everyone enjoyed deli sandwiches from Tony & Pete’s, owned and operated by fellow Wright State Alumni. As with last year’s outing, we had multiple individuals donate bottles of bourbon as raffle prizes, which again turned out to be our most well-received items garnering over eight hundred raffle tickets among the five bottles of bourbon prizes.
Thank you to all who participated in this event by either playing or by becoming a sponsor, we truly could not have made it happen without all your support. The date for next year’s outing has been set, so mark your calendars for September 7th, 2024. We look forward to seeing you all not only at our next outing but also at our other hosted events throughout the year.
